Provide metallurgical and technical support for process changes, new product launches, root cause analysis, and corrective actions related to heat treat or material performance. Conduct metallurgical laboratory inspections such as hardness testing, microstructure evaluation (microscopic and macroscopic), magnetic particle inspection, and etch conformance. Prepare and analyze samples through cutting, sectioning, mounting, polishing, and etching; perform lab cut-ups and evaluate results against internal and customer quality standards. Complete quality documentation and measurement activities aligned with APQP and PPAP, including capability studies and ISIR layouts. Verify incoming material certifications and compliance with quality requirements. Participate in internal audits and calibration programs; ensure inspection and testing equipment is properly calibrated and maintained. Train production operators and process stakeholders on heat treat and metallurgical requirements and verify effectiveness. Collaborate with engineering, quality, and production teams and communicate with suppliers to resolve material quality issues and non-conformances. Maintain daily metallurgical lab operations, including chemical handling, equipment upkeep, and ordering of supplies. Required Qualifications of the Metallurgical Technician: 1–3 years of experience in a metallurgical lab, heat treating, or manufacturing environment. Hands-on experience with inspections such as hardness testing, magnetic particle inspection, or etching. Basic understanding of metallurgy, material behavior, and heat treat processes.
