Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Manufacturing Estimator & Process Strategist to drive the accuracy, efficiency, and profitability of our precision machining quoting process. This role develops comprehensive, executable manufacturing plans that ensure seamless alignment between estimates and actual shop floor performance. Operating in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, you will directly influence profitability, capacity utilization, and strategic business growth. The ideal candidate brings hands-on CNC machining and programming expertise combined with strong process optimization skills, and understands how material sourcing, outside services, and vendor performance impact quote accuracy and competitiveness. Key Responsibilities RFQ Evaluation & Prioritization * Own technical intake and evaluation of RFQs by interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements * Assess manufacturability, risk factors, and cost drivers based on actual shop capabilities and workforce skill levels * Prioritize RFQs in a high-volume, fast-turnaround environment based on urgency, complexity, and strategic value * Apply company criteria to recommend pursuing, prioritizing, or declining opportunities based on capability, capacity, and margin potential Detailed Estimating & Process Planning * Develop comprehensive estimates including routing, operations, setup strategies, cycle times, and outside services * Translate engineering drawings into executable manufacturing plans with realistic, shop-floor-validated assumptions * Distinguish between first-run inefficiencies and repeat production performance to optimize quoting strategy * Account for setup iteration, prove-out time, and process development when estimating new work * Incorporate machine availability and operator skill levels into all estimates to ensure feasibility Supplier & Purchasing Coordination * Source and validate pricing for raw materials and outside services (heat treat, plating, coatings, etc.) during quoting * Collaborate with purchasing to ensure vendor pricing, lead times, and capabilities are accurately reflected in quotes * Evaluate supplier performance and pricing trends to continuously improve estimate reliability * Identify cost-saving opportunities through strategic vendor selection, material alternatives, or process improvements Design Review & Manufacturability * Proactively question design intent, tolerances, and manufacturing approaches when inefficiencies are identified * Recommend design modifications to reduce costs, improve manufacturability, and increase throughput * Collaborate cross-functionally to optimize processes before finalizing quotes Continuous Improvement & Accuracy * Own continuous improvement initiatives by comparing estimated versus actual production results * Identify root causes of variance, particularly in setup times and first-run performance * Refine estimating models using real production data and maintain a strong feedback loop with the shop floor * Periodically validate assumptions on the shop floor by observing setups, tooling approaches, and workflow Cross-Functional Collaboration & Sales Support * Work closely with the Director of Manufacturing to implement process improvements and maintain operational alignment * Support machinists, programmers, and tooling personnel with clear planning assumptions and technical guidance * Improve quote win rates through strategic pricing, competitive lead times, and technical positioning * Provide input on which opportunities to pursue based on capability fit and margin protection Required Qualifications * Hands-on CNC machining experience (mill and/or lathe) - required * Proven ability to interpret engineering drawings, including GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) * Experience developing detailed manufacturing estimates including routing, setup, and cycle time calculations * Strong understanding of machining processes, tooling selection, and setup strategies * Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-variability environment with shifting priorities * Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills Note: Candidates without hands-on machining experience will not be considered. Collect and prepare laboratory specimens as ordered and perform routine sterilization procedures of medical and dental equipment according to guidelines. Triage and address as directed, unscheduled requests for physician visits in the clinic. Float MA should proactively review onsite Specialist calendar daily to ensure all available appointments are filled and address any vacancies; provide weekly schedule to onsite Specialists and/or Specialist’s coordinator. Support Specialists prepping participant for exam and ensuring history of current conditions is captured; Specialist has current orders and relevant information related to appointment, document procedures and care provided by the Specialist in Athena. Maintain Emergency Cart daily log; monitor and maintain medication/vaccine refrigerator log; manage participant sharps containers and maintain log.
