Duties The major duties of this position include but are not limited to: Apply a wide range of professional theories, assessment methods and techniques to care for ill patients and those with Podiatric medical and surgical problems. Responsible for initial evaluation and overall workup, history and physicals, and admission of podiatric patients as needed. Clinical duties include, but are not limited to, Operating Room (experience in a wide variety of standard podiatric surgical procedures and operations), in-patient rounds, Emergency Room and Outpatient Clinics. The staff podiatrist will be able to perform a wide variety of podiatric surgical procedures. May also supervise students and residents who rotate through the podiatry service. Participate in all surgical quality/performance improvement initiatives as appropriate. Participate in podiatry night call and perform emergency podiatric surgical procedures. Responsible for providing patients with education concerning their disease state and treatment regimen. The staff podiatrist will assess Veterans' risks and benefits associated with surgical procedures and will provide appropriate informed consent, so Veterans fully understand the important risks and benefits of surgical intervention. Complete all electronic, clinical, daily charting and documentation required by the Medical Center in a timely manner as appropriate, including outcomes reporting as appropriate. Consult with Medical Center staff on many patient - care issues. Enforces a policy of full disclosure. If there is a complication in the course of a patient's care, the staff podiatrist will discuss the untoward event, including the patient's options for a second medical opinion or legal action, and will document these discussions in the chart (CPRS). Work effectively with patients and co-workers and will treat other health care professionals and patients' families with respect and dignity. Report administratively and clinically to the Chief of Podiatry. In addition, this individual may report to the Chief of Surgery for the program(s) to which he/she is assigned. Additional duties can be discussed with the hiring manager. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm or at the department's discretion. The VA San Diego Healthcare System is looking to add a Primary Care Physician to our team at our Oceanside Community-Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC). The CBOC operates under a Patient Aligned Care Team Model. Together with their team, comprised of a PCP, RN, LVN, and an administrator, the PCP cares for a panel of approximately 1,200-1,260 patients. The PCP provides primary care services in a team-based setting, including chronic disease management and preventive health. Common diagnoses encountered include diabetes, hypertension, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, degenerative arthritis, depression, congestive heart failure, and chronic pain. The physician evaluates, diagnoses, treats, and provides consultation for non-surgical adult patients of all ages, without life-threatening complications and with a wide variety of diseases, injuries, and disorders. He or she assesses, stabilizes, and determines the disposition of patients with emergent conditions consistent with medical staff policy regarding emergency and consultative call services.
