Understands and applies the principles of aseptic technique and peri-operative nursing. Provides complete and accurate documentation for all operative records within the electronic health record (op-time) system. Possesses knowledge and demonstrates the proper use, care and handling of all equipment, instruments and supplies within the operating room environment. Accepts accountability for clinical care of patient Initiates and coordinates time out and supports all patient safety initiatives. Participates in teaching students, orientation of new personnel and providing continuing education for OR staff. Attends, participates and completes all required meetings, in-services and educational programs annually. Assesses, recognizes, records and reports to appropriate surgical team members all signs/symptoms or changes in patient's condition. Participates on committees and special assignments as needed. Participate in professional organizations such as AORN. Encouraged to seek certification as an operating room nurse. Maintains confidentiality with regards to patient/employee information. Supports and follows all AORN/AAMI/OSHA Standards and Recommended Practices. Maintains knowledge of disaster planning and can fulfill a role in specific disaster plans. Participates in reviewing revising the philosophies, objectives, procedure cards, policy/procedure, and job descriptions on a continual basis.
