The Cornell TASS program serves approximately 36 high school juniors and seniors in an intensive summer program centered on a college-level humanities seminar. Prior to participants’ arrival, the Health Director works part time to review medical histories and coordinate with parents, guardians, and staff to prepare for a safe and well-supported program. During the program, the Health Director works full time, resides on site, and is available for consultation to manage all health and safety needs. The Health Director serves as the primary point of contact for parents and guardians regarding emergent health issues and accompanies participants on field trips as needed. Complete training as required by the state of New York, Cornell University, and Telluride Association. Occasionally collaborate with the Summer Program Manager and Health Directors at other TASS sites to address health and safety needs across sites. Program Operations - 80% Reside on site at the Cornell Branch of the Telluride Association for the duration of the program, from June 15 - August 2, 2026. Manage the implementation of the written safety plan’s medical components. Supervise the health and sanitation at the camp. Serve as the primary contact for parents and guardians regarding emergent health needs, ensuring timely communication. Manage initial health screening and daily health surveillance of the TASS participants. Address health emergencies and injuries, including emergency preparedness, transportation to medical care, and follow-up for professional health care. Maintain the camp medical log. Manage the infirmary’s operations. Manage TASS participant medications, including intake inventory and supervision of self-administration of medications. Designate and train staff members for medication administration Accompany field trips. After program completion, inventory and pack up the infirmary and medical paperwork. Collaborate closely with the Assistant Health Director to ensure that there is adequate staff availability for the program at all times. Meet regularly with supervisor and other program staff to ensure the health and safety of program participants and staff. Support and advise the Summer Program Manager in managing health and safety at Cornell University and University of Maryland TASS programs. Provide feedback to the Summer Program Manager to improve future programs.
