Job Description Job Description The Mechanic is responsible for the health and maintenance of all the Company equipment that is in service, to include pickups and all company heavy equipment (i.e., milling machines, reclaimers, skid steers, forklifts vehicles, etc.). The mechanic is responsible for maintaining production, quality and safety standards by ensuring the operation of machinery and mechanical equipment. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: Above all, ensure that safe practices are followed in all aspects of daily activities. Diagnose / troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues accurately the first time. Read schematics, diagrams, blueprints, etc. to assist with repairs and/or diagnostics. Diagnose complex electric, hydraulic, and mechanical issues. Remove, replace, and repair major components of milling machines, skid-steer loaders, street sweepers, heavy and light trucks, etc. Perform routine maintenance services on heavy equipment. Conduct annual vehicle inspections as per Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements. Perform repairs on-site in the field as needed. Maintain degree of professionalism and customer satisfaction for employees operating the equipment and a positive customer experience. Actively communicate with the Shop Manager, other mechanics, operators, etc. to ensure repair and maintenance services are provided in a timely manner. Ensure part needs are communicated to Shop Manager to ensure proper inventory levels. Maintain ability to work overtime, nights and weekends particularly during the high season summer months. Maintain a safe and efficient workflow in the shop. Complete special projects as required. REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: High School Diploma or equivalent. Prior experience welding heavy machinery. Experience and excellent knowledge of the repair and maintenance of heavy duty construction equipment; a minimum of 3 years of experience preferred. Experience with roto-milling and/or related equipment highly preferred. Ability to work long hours outdoors and will be on their feet all day while either walking or standing. Detail oriented, organized, and capable of working independently and efficiently in a high-pressure environment. Reasonable level of computer literacy. Valid driver license and acceptable motor vehicle record; CDL preferred. Knowledge of organizational and safety operations and procedures, safety methods and practices. Knowledge and understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) and current OSHA rules and regulations and ensuring compliance with these guidelines. Ability to engage in heavy manual labor for extended periods, in all types of weather and under various working conditions. Demonstrated skills in the care and use of hand and power tools employed in all phases of heavy equipment mechanical maintenance and repair work. Able to read, write and communicate verbally in English. Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people and backgrounds. Ability to follow instructions in a verbal and written format. Ability to use good judgement and foresight. Ability to speak to others to convey information effectively. Ability to work overtime, nights and weekends particularly during the high season summer months. Ability to travel to job sites; ability to quickly and effectively diagnose and repair mechanical/maintenance issues. WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Occasionally works in an indoor office relatively free from environmental conditions or hazards. Must tolerate working environment with outside temperatures that include excessive heat, cold, wind, and precipitation. Must be able to work outside, around moving objects, vehicles, and machinery with moving parts. Must be able to push, pull and lift up to 75 pounds to an overhead position. Must be able to stand, walk, kneel, bend, and twist body. Must be able to stand for long periods of time. Must be able to use both hands and demonstrate good hand-eye coordination. Tolerance to sounds and noise levels that are distracting or uncomfortable. Potentially exposed to contaminants, such as dust or fumes from exhaust; frequent exposure to hazardous equipment. Occasionally work in very bright or very dim lighting conditions. Are sometimes exposed to hazardous situations that produce cuts or minor burns. Occasionally are exposed to whole body vibration, such as when using a jackhammer. May need to work in tight/confined spaces or work areas. Must be able to regularly wear personal protective equipment, including hard hats, safety goggles, safety vests and/or ear plugs. Quality Control: Checking every vehicle to make sure it meets our high standards before it leaves the shop. Shop Pride: Keeping your workspace clean and organized while keeping clear digital notes on every job. What We Are Looking For Engine Knowledge: You should know how diesel engines work inside and out. It’s a plus if you have experience with brands like Cummins, John Deere, or Mitsubishi. Computer Skills: You are comfortable using modern technology and diagnostic tools. Strength: You are physically fit and able to lift up to 100 lbs. Work Ethic: You are organized, pay attention to the little things, and talk clearly with your team. The Basics: You have a valid CDL Class B license and know how to use all the standard shop tools. We are currently looking for an experienced Diesel Mechanic to join our evening shift team. Evening Shift and Day shift available: Eve: Monday–Friday, 2:00 PM – 10:30 PM Day: Monday- Friday, 8am- 4:30pm Pay: Compensation will be based on experience.
