Responsibilities -Determine need and extent of repairs, quality of shop or contractor repair work to be performed, and compliance with specifications, plans, orders, directives, and sound shop practices, -Conduct inspections on systems installed aboard cranes including lubricating systems, high pressure fuel oil systems control systems, hydraulic systems, structural components, and braking safety devices, -Perform general overhaul work required to restore equipment to good operating condition economically, without over servicing or under servicing, -Make recommendations regarding complete rebuilding or disposal of equipment when inspection reveals extensive or unusual damage, -Prepare shop repair orders to specify corrective action and/or repairs needed to continue the equipment in operation or work requests for engineering evaluation of specific problems areas, -Prepare maintenance and test records and orders parts and materials. -Inspect repair work in progress to determine what additional work may be required. -Inspect maintenance performed on equipment during and after repairs to ensure that it meets established standards. -Conduct inspections on the supporting structures and elevate deficiencies to engineering for further evaluation and recommendations. -Assist engineering personnel during tests of equipment to help the engineer evaluate the equipment, -Troubleshoot, localize system deficiencies, and identify faulty components. Requirements -Knowledge of a technical discipline such as: mechanical, hydraulic, electronic, and/or structural systems, -Ability to expeditiously read and interpret schematics, diagrams, and other technical directives to diagnose trouble or perform overhaul, -Ability to complete detailed reports, -Familiar with underlying principles of mechanical and structural systems of weight handling equipment, -Knowledgeable in practical math and its application, -Skilled in the use of precision measuring instruments and measuring devices.
