Crossing Guard

Responsible for ensuring the safe crossing of school-age children at assigned school crosswalks within school speed zones. Guards are assigned posts at elementary schools, junior high schools, and some high schools. Guards perform their work in split shifts and work shifts range from 1 hour to 6.5 hours per day depending on schools assigned. Each shift is 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after students' arrival and departure times. This position requires a dependable incumbent that can work split shift. Actively participate in job-specific training, including the Florida School Crossing Guard Training Program (FDOT), and attending annual mandatory training and requalification every 14 months. Monitor school crossing areas for students who wish to cross and allow them to cross appropriately and safely. Provide school children with safety crossing instructions and crossing procedures.
