As a Principal System Safety Engineer, you will be accountable for the establishment and execution of the major safety programs. The Safety Lead is a technical expert in missile safety as well as a project manager who establishes and monitors safety program execution, leads program safety teams, and interfaces with program & functional leadership. What You Will Do This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated Principal System Safety Engineer to join us onsite as a Safety Lead with proven experience in executing all aspects of system safety. Developing and implementing one or more MIL-STD-882E compliant system safety programs involving management (task series 100), analysis (task series 200), evaluation (task series 300), and verification (task series 400). Practical application of project management skills: Create/update the strategy for the program to meet all its milestones with system safety features integrated into the product in compliance with contract and awarded funding. Create a schedule and integrate safety tasks and activities into program Integrated Master Schedule (IMS). Plan/manage the safety program effort within the Program IMS. Understanding of the safety budget and tasking through close coordination with the responsible CAM / IPTL / product owner, including EACs. Mentor junior safety engineers. Actively engage in engineering review boards, and configuration control boards to stay on top of design changes and assess impacts to the established safety program. Establish on-going feedback loop with functional and program management. Lead & coordinate System Safety Working Group(s) between key Raytheon and Customer representatives. Escalate risks to the appropriate level and follow through on corrective actions. Interpret system requirements, customer specifications and military standards, to recommend compliance strategies to program leadership: Chief Engineer, Program Manager, Integrated Product Team Lead, etc. Working across all integrated product teams and lines to properly eliminate hazards or provide effective controls. Collaborate with stakeholders across a range of engineering functions to identify and mitigate risks: Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Firmware Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Hardware Engineering, Environmental Safety, & Health, Human Systems Interfaces, Test Engineering. Analysis of engineering hardware, mechanical and electrical drawings and schematics assessing fault tolerance, latent hazards, and safety requirements compliance. Collaborate with Program Management and government approval authorities from design, fabrication, integration and test, production to demilitarization and disposal phases Manage safety-related interactions with suppliers and/or subcontractors. Innovate better safety solutions. Identify best practices to improve overall safety culture at Raytheon. Understand and shape system safety/Human System Interfaces postures across the lifecycle (design, integration/ test, flight test, production, field, returns). Qualifications You Must Have Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant experience. Experience developing and implementing MIL-STD-882E System Safety Program tasks and analyses, involving management (task series 100), analysis (task series 200), evaluation (task series 300), and verification (task series 400). This includes hardware and software safety related tasks. Experience with DoD System Safety Programs e.g. MIL-STD-882 / DO-178. Experience with presentation skills to brief safety status to safety approval authority at technical reviews, safety review boards, and others as part of the safety approval process. Experience managing a safety program. Experience collaborating with stakeholders across a range of engineering functions to identify and mitigate risks. The group provides end‑to‑end design support for both overhead and underground transmission facilities and plays a critical role in ensuring system reliability, safety, and long‑term performance. Core responsibilities include: * Engineering and design of transmission towers and steel structures * Engineering and design of wood pole structures in high‑load environments * Overhead conductor engineering and associated line equipment design * Underground cable system design, including structures and appurtenances * Fiber‑optic system installation design * Preparation and issuance of construction drawings and as‑built documentation * Technical coordination with Substation Engineering * Technical consultation, industry engagement (IEEE, vendors, utilities), and evaluation of project alternatives * Development of project scopes, detailed estimates, and material lists for Major projects. * Equipment specification, vendor coordination, and bulk material strategy * Construction support, training, and corrective action follow‑up * Technical input for feasibility and early‑stage project assessments Position Summary The Supervising Engineer will lead a team responsible for delivering high‑quality transmission design and engineering work, both internally and through external engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) partners. This role is accountable for: * Managing scope, schedule, budget, and quality for all assigned design and engineering activities * Building and maintaining strong, long‑term relationships with EPC and engineering‑only contractors to support mutually beneficial performance and collaboration * Developing, tracking, and communicating key performance indicators—including design cycle time, quality metrics, cost performance, and schedule adherence * Engaging with stakeholders across construction, maintenance, and operations to gather feedback, identify improvement opportunities, and strengthen cross‑functional alignment * Employee development and training initiatives. This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and the Oakland General Office(OGO) as business needs require. This role entails 20% travel. PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.
