Senior leadership role Strong compensation Great team Job Details We are seeking an experienced legal and risk management executive to lead the organization’s litigation, claims, insurance, and enterprise risk functions. This position will oversee a multidisciplinary team responsible primarily for professional liability matters, while also managing workers’ compensation, insurance, regulatory, and other litigation-related risks. The SVP of Litigation and Risk Management will serve as a strategic partner to the Chief Legal Officer, CEO, finance leadership, and other senior executives. This leader will be responsible for improving litigation outcomes, strengthening risk-management processes, and developing the data and reporting capabilities necessary to support financial forecasting and business decisions. Responsibilities Lead the organization’s litigation, claims, insurance, and risk management functions, with approximately 95% of claims involving professional liability matters Manage and develop senior leaders overseeing claims litigation, litigation strategy, insurance, and a broader claims team Oversee a portfolio of complex litigation matters, including professional liability claims, class actions, regulatory investigations, workers’ compensation matters, and other high-exposure disputes Develop litigation strategies for significant, sensitive, and high-value cases in partnership with the Chief Legal Officer and senior leadership Select, manage, and evaluate outside counsel across a substantial external litigation portfolio Establish performance expectations, billing guidelines, case-management standards, and outcome metrics for outside counsel Manage the department’s P&L, litigation expenses, claims reserves, insurance costs, and overall risk portfolio Partner closely with finance and dedicated claims analysts to support reserving, forecasting, budgeting, and financial reporting Identify emerging legal and operational risks across the organization and develop proactive mitigation strategies Improve claims-management systems, analytical tools, reporting processes, and data-sharing capabilities Use claims and litigation data to identify trends, evaluate exposure, and provide actionable recommendations to business and executive leadership Advise senior management on litigation exposure, regulatory risks, settlement strategy, insurance coverage, and business implications Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and controls related to claims handling, litigation management, insurance, and risk prevention Provide clear and timely reporting to executive leadership regarding major cases, financial exposure, litigation trends, and risk-management initiatives Foster a proactive, accountable, collaborative, and solutions-oriented culture within the legal and risk management teams Requirements JD from an accredited law school Active license to practice law and membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar Significant litigation and risk management experience within a highly regulated industry Prior in-house legal experience is required Demonstrated experience managing complex litigation portfolios, including high-exposure disputes, class actions, and regulatory investigations Experience overseeing professional liability litigation or claims strongly preferred Proven success leading attorneys, claims professionals, senior department leaders, and outside counsel Experience managing litigation budgets, claims reserves, insurance programs, and departmental financial performance Strong understanding of litigation strategy, claims management, risk assessment, insurance coverage, and financial exposure Ability to evaluate legal risks within the context of broader operational and business objectives Demonstrated ability to develop proactive risk-management and litigation-prevention strategies Strong analytical skills and experience using data to support claims reserving, forecasting, litigation strategy, and executive decision-making Ability to communicate complex legal and financial information clearly to senior executives, finance professionals, and business stakeholders Strong executive presence, sound judgment, and the ability to lead effectively in a complex and rapidly changing environment Must be based in Nashville, Tennessee, or willing to relocate; relocation assistance is available Interested in hearing more?
